Children's Ministries and Religious Education at OLPH WHAT IS CATECHESIS? Catechesis is an ancient word meaning "Echoing God's Word". The person who does this is known as a catechist. Perhaps you have been praying with your child and talking about God's presence and love in your lives. Wonderful! We recognize that you, as a parent, are the first educator and catechist of your child. CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD is a program of faith formation for children aged 3 through 12 years, where they can experience and form a meaningful relationship with God. Each week, the children gather in the Atrium, a room prepared for them that is suited to their needs and capacities. Here the children and the catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of our Catholic faith as revealed in the Scriptures and the Liturgy. FAMILY CATECHESIS—Parents have the mission of educating their children to pray and discover their vocation as children of God. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2226) The effort in Family Catechesis is to help parents bring practical faith experiences into everyday life at home, to celebrate rituals, mark rites of passage (celebrating the arrival of a new baby or special visitors, leaving home, etc) creating prayer spaces and blessing rituals. Family Catechesis offers parents a chance to be fully involved in the faith development of their child through active participation. The program is available in English or Spanish on Sunday mornings, 10:45 A.M. to 12:00 Noon, and will begin in late September through mid-May. Registration materials for the above programs are available in the Parish Center, or you may print out the forms from this website and submit to the Parish Office. For additional information about either program, please call Theresa at the Parish Center, (480) 874-3710. Watch for our registration table in the large vestibule the weekend of September 8th and 9th. Volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.
