OLPH Parish Master Plan

Dear Parishioners and School Families,

I'd like to take this opportunity to update you about our building project.  With the help of so many generous individuals and families, we have reached many of our goals, over the past three years.  We also have tremendous opportunity ahead of us.  First of all, please know how grateful I am to all who donated or pledged to the Capital Campaign three years ago.  OLPH is a Parish very much alive with many different parts making up the whole. "The body is one and has many members...and so it is with Christ" (Corinthians 12:12).

In his talk at Washington National Stadium on April 17, 2008, Pope Benedict said, "The Church in the United States is now called to look to the future, firmly grounded in the faith passed on by previous generations, and ready to meet new challenges - challenges no less demanding than those faced by your forebears - with the hope born of God's love, poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (cf. Rom 5:5)."

We have a great tradition at OLPH.  In 1933, the Old Adobe Mission was built; in 1956, Monsignor Maguire moved to Miller and Main; in 1975, the new church was built; and in 2005, the vision of a new Parish Life Center was established.

As we weave tradition and vision together, let me tell you of the great things accomplished so far.

The School has been significantly upgraded (equipped for technology, counseling and conference rooms, and offices for Administration, new classrooms, new library, and art room.)

bullet

Maguire Hall has been renovated (lowered ceiling and air conditioning upgraded).

A security fence has been erected for the safety of the children.

With these initial projects successfully completed, we continue to work towards the final phase of the plan.

I am pleased to let you know that a talented and dedicated leadership team, made up of members of this Parish, has been assembled in order to oversee a Master Plan for the construction of our new Parish Life Center.  The Master Plan includes working with the Diocesan Building Commission and Finance Council for final approval and presenting the construction plans to the City of Scottsdale for review and permitting.  A leadership team will also help to execute our fundraising plan to raise the remainder of funds needed to reach our final goal.

We had originally hoped to finance this project through the sale of property on the north side of Main Street; however, current economic conditions have negatively impacted that option.  Our best stewardship of that asset would be to hold on to it for future sale or as future endowment for the Parish.

As the final funds are secured and we receive approval to move forward, construction will begin on the new Parish Life Center.  The Center will become a hub for our expanding programs and services within OLPH.

   It will have:

Rooms for catechetical instruction.

bullet

Teen room for high schoolers and young adults.

bullet

Meeting rooms for Men's Club, Ladies Sodality, seniors, RCIA, Baptism Preparation classes, funeral luncheons, etc.

bullet

St. Vincent de Paul Pantry.

bullet

Parish offices.

bullet

Large hall for Parish social functions, athletic games, and large kitchen.

bullet

Locker rooms.

Conference rooms.

It will, in fact, become where the many parts of our body of Christ come together as one.

I am confident that our leadership teams will be reaching milestones quickly over the upcoming months and I will keep you updated on the progress.  Please know that your prayers, support, and generosity have made this vision a reality and I ask that you continue to keep this project in your prayers.  This new Parish Life Center will make Monsignor Maguire's dream a reality in having a complete parish complex on Miller and Main.  It will serve our community for years to come.

God bless,

Rev. Thomas Hever
