The Accelerated Reader Program (AR) is a reading program designed to encourage students to read books at their reading level and provide feedback on that student's reading progress through the use of quizzes.

Accelerated Reader, through Renaissance Learning, will choose and evaluate a book then assign points and a reading level to it. The level is determined by the vocabulary used as well as the difficulty of the sentences used in the book. Finally, a quiz is written for the book. There are approximately 100,000 quizzes currently available from Renaissance Learning and other vendors with about 10,000 quizzes being added yearly. OLPH implemented the Accelerated Reader Program (AR) in 2005. This year, with the expansion of our Library, the AR program has also grown. More books and quizzes have been added to the program this year and will continue to grow into the future. Now you know what all those green AR stickers signify!
