What Can I Do to Help Stop Euthanasia?
§ Pray daily for an end to euthanasia, and for doctors, nurses, and all health care workers and caregivers, that they will defend and protect all human life in all circumstances.
§ Participate in the Sanctity of Life Holy Hours at the Adoration Chapel at OLPH: Mondays 11- 12 AM, Thursdays 7-8 PM.
§ Strive to become educated and informed: nutrition and hydration are not extraordinary measures; modern pain management eliminates the excuse of “mercy killing”; permitting assisted suicide would confer a license to kill, not heal, etc.
§ Consider having a “Will to Live” document instead of a Living Will. Such a document is available at www.nrlc.org or from the OLPH Sanctity of Life Committee.
§ Designate a trusted person to act with Durable Power of Attorney or with Medical Power of Attorney. Make certain that your health care professional and your family and friends are aware of your wishes about your medical treatment when you are unable to communicate.
§ Use pro-life physicians, attorneys and medical providers.
§ Reach out to the elderly, the disabled and the mentally disadvantaged to create a society in which people nurture and care for one another. Then euthanasia will be unthinkable and unacceptable.
§ Wear the “Precious Feet” pin which represents a baby’s foot at 10 weeks after conception. It is the international pro-life symbol, and encourages us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves: the elderly, the disabled, the mentally disadvantaged, and the terminally ill.
§ Be alert for euthanasia as it shows up in its various forms: terminating the lives of handicapped children; killing people who are dependent on others for support; disposing of those in our jails; or under the guise of genetic "improvement", eugenics, and abortion.
§ Add your name to petitions opposing euthanasia, and write your government officials to express your opposition to any bills permitting euthanasia in any form.
§ Add your e-mail address or postal mailing address to the Parish list for updates on pro-life. (e-mail your request to Carole Dellorfano at: Cdellorfano@diocesephoenix.org or mail a letter to her, c/o OLPH Church, 7655 E. Main St., Scottsdale, AZ 85251)
§ Register to vote, and vote! Support and vote for legislators who will oppose euthanasia. If euthanasia becomes legal, it will be a matter of life or death -- possibly your own!
