What Can I Do to Help End the Death Penalty?

§         Pray daily for those on death row, for the victims of capital crime, for an end to the use of the death penalty, and that the gift of forgiveness be given to everyone in our nation.

§         Participate in the Sanctity of Life Holy Hours at the Adoration Chapel at OLPH: Mondays 11- 12 AM, Thursdays 7-8 PM.

§         Strive to become educated and informed concerning use of the death penalty in the United States and in other countries.

§         Write letters to your state and federal legislators expressing your opposition to the death penalty because it does not conform to the unique dignity of human life, is no longer necessary for the protection of society, and is more costly than imprisonment.

§         Encourage and help with pastoral outreach to innocent victims of capital crimes.  Help to provide them with material assistance, especially those with children and limited means of support.

§         Reach out to those on death row by visiting them, or by writing them a letter, so they may not despair, and may have an opportunity to grow spiritually.   Help to ensure that the families who have lost a member to capital punishment receive compassion and material support necessary for living.

§         Wear the “Precious Feet” pin which represents a baby’s foot at 10 weeks after conception.  It is the international pro-life symbol, and encourages us to speak up in defense of all human lives.

§         Work to ensure that the spiritual needs of death row prisoners are met, and that they can receive the sacraments if they are Catholic.

§         Pray the rosary at candlelight vigils outside the prison in Florence, AZ, or other prisons where executions are about to take place.

§         Add your name to petitions opposing the death penalty, and write your government officials to express your opposition to any bills continuing or expanding use of the death penalty.

§         Add your e-mail address or postal mailing address to the Parish list for updates on pro-life.  (e-mail your request to Carole Dellorfano at:  cdellorfano@diocesephoenix.org or mail a letter to her, c/o OLPH Church, 7655 E. Main St., Scottsdale, AZ  85251).

§         Register to vote, and vote!  Support and vote for legislators who will oppose the death penalty.
